vDesign documentation

vDesign is a design tool built for working with AI models. Its documents are text: a .vd file is a short, line-oriented description of a design, written so that a model can author it, edit it a line at a time, and read it back. A person edits the same document on a canvas. Neither has to translate for the other.

These pages describe that format, how to teach it to a model, and how an assistant reaches a document you have open.

Where to start

  • The .vd format: what a file holds, and why it is shaped the way it is.
  • The DSL: the language itself, in four parts. Expressions are how a value reads other values. Nodes lists every node type and property. Edits are the statements that change a document without rewriting it. Motion is how Play presents it. The examples are complete documents.
  • Teaching an agent: give a model the vDesign skill.
  • MCP: connect an assistant to the documents open in vDesign.

The same text a model reads

The DSL pages are not a rewrite for people. They are the reference files of the vDesign skill, served as they are written: what you read here is exactly what a model is taught. That keeps them honest. A property the code accepts and these pages never mention fails vDesign’s own checks, and every complete example is parsed, resolved and drawn by its tests.

So the reference is written to a model, in the second person. It says “you” and means whoever is writing the document.
